US$ 3.6 billion in Private and Nongovernment Contributions to the Global Fund
Private sector and nongovernment partners play a critical role driving investment in Global Fund’s unique partnership model, leading to millions of lives saved. As of January 2022, private sector partners’ contributions total more than US$ 3.6 billion. This total includes substantial commitments from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as well as nearly US$700 million generated by (RED). The role private sector and nongovernment partners play and their contributions have significantly increased since the Global Fund's founding.
In the 2023-2025 replenishment period, the private sector pledged US$ 1.3 billion.
Beyond Financial Contributions
Private sector companies implement programs on the ground as Principal Recipients and sub-recipients of grants, serving people living with AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. The private sector acts in-country as part of Country Coordinating Mechanisms, while manufacturers and suppliers create and deliver critical health products.
The PSC advances the Global Fund mission and saves lives through mobilizing resources, designing and implementing delivery and funding innovations, as well as through advocacy and awareness.
Further, PSC members participate in decision-making as part of the Global Fund Board. The Board, through its 20 voting constituencies, approves funding and determines the partnership’s priorities and policies.
